My program

Crafted by emlyon business school and Cours Florent, this program is designed to empower future artists, whether they perform on stage or in front of the camera, with the skills needed to excel in their profession amid a period of significant transformation. Like all industries, the performing arts and cinema are deeply influenced by major societal changes such as globalization, technological disruptions, environmental challenges, shifts in cultural consumption behaviours, and evolving ecosystems with increasingly shared roles (actors, authors, directors, producers, etc.), adding complexity to the landscape in which artists must navigate today. emlyon business school, ranked as the 4th French business school and 9th in Europe, has embedded entrepreneurial spirit into its DNA across all programs since its inception. Cours Florent, founded in 1967 by François Florent, a recognized actor and educator, introduced an innovative approach to interpretation and acting pedagogy. The school has consistently upheld an innovative teaching methodology based on project-based learning and the development of critical thinking anchored in societal realities. The BA in Acting & Entrepreneurship program is structured to address the challenges of transformation and heightened complexity in the live performance and cinema industries, leveraging the excellence in pedagogy from both partners.

Year 1

The personal and professional project that led you to this program is to become an actor and thrive in the artistic world, either on stage or in front of the camera. The first year of the program will allocate a significant portion (40 ECTS) to acquiring and developing interpretative skills (body, voice, breathing, improvisation, etc.) and exploring classical and contemporary repertoires. Building on your experiences on stage, you will gradually cultivate behavioural skills common to both the actor's and entrepreneur's realms: intercultural communication, stress management, building effective teams, etc. You will delve into theoretical frameworks addressing these challenges, progressively analysing their applicability in the entrepreneurial world. Artistic projects will serve as a platform to explore project management methodologies and tools, applicable in both the artistic and entrepreneurial domains. Throughout the year, master classes with entrepreneurs from various fields (artistic, cultural, technological, social, etc.) will be offered to instil an entrepreneurial mindset as a key component in shaping your personal and professional project.

Year 2

While continuing to develop your artistic skills and applying the techniques learned in the first year to embody your roles, the second year focuses on implementing the entrepreneurial mindset established in the first year. Modules providing perspectives, methodologies, and tools for acting as an actor-entrepreneur form the backbone of this second year, with a direct application to a business creation project (dedicated 40 ECTS). The insights gained in this second year will enable you to:

  • Decode the complexity of the artistic ecosystem using sociology of organisations models,
  • Define the target audience and articulate your offering through marketing insights,
  • Manage the costs associated with your artistic project implementation and identify financing needs through finance management modules,
  • Communicate your project to your target audience using various channels, including those offered by social networks.

Year 3

With the fundamentals of interpretation, acting, methodologies, and techniques supporting entrepreneurial projects established, the third year of the program focuses on the practical implementation of your project. Entrepreneurship-oriented modules will provide practical insights into negotiation, fundraising, and the legal dimensions crucial for your future profession (contract law, intellectual property rights). You will continue your artistic development by asserting your artistic identity, preparing your portfolio, practicing for auditions, and exploring other roles you may also adopt writing, directing, producing. You will lead an artistic project, managing it in an entrepreneurial approach, presenting it at the end of the program to both professionals in the artistic world and entrepreneurial actors.
