Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: emlyon students take part in an educational and inspiring pre-semester experience
A group of students from 4 Master of Sciences programs at emlyon business school had the opportunity to spend a day at Roland Garros on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. They discovered the world of these historic games and lived a significant moment, combining sport with enriching exchanges.
A rich educational and human experience
Students were immersed in this event, allowing them to better understand the challenges and values of the Paralympic Games. "It’s fascinating to witness the intensity of the athletes and how they excel in their discipline," said a student, who was amazed by the discovery. Organised in a pedagogical context, this day gave them the chance to have a sporting and enriching experience, giving them a unique perspective on the role of inclusion in sport and beyond.
Behind the scenes of a major sporting event
Beyond the athletes' performances, the day allowed the students to better understand the complex organization of the Paralympic Games. Benjamin Guilloux, Director of Operations at Roland Garros, gave them an insight into the behind-the-scenes work and logistical challenges of organizing such an event. "We have many students and children present, as it’s the first week of school in France. We are working with the Paris 2024 teams to organize the competitions and manage all operational logistics," he explained. What distinguishes the Paralympic Games, according to him, is the involvement of partners and sponsors, who are given visibility on the courts, a central aspect of their communication. "This differs from the traditional Olympic Games," he noted.
Benjamin Guilloux also highlighted an aspect of these Games: "This is the first time that the French Tennis Federation (FFT) has been entrusted with such a large organizational delegation. We aim to reduce costs while making the Games more accessible." Special attention has been paid to the accessibility of the infrastructures for the athletes: "We had to adapt the backstage areas and flows to ensure the best possible conditions for the athletes. The feedback we’ve received has been very positive, which is a great satisfaction for us."
When sport connect and inspire
Despite the cool weather, the enthusiasm of the students was palpable throughout the day. Zhu Keye, digital marketing program’s student, shared his thoughts: "It was cold, but the match was fantastic. All the players gave their best. It’s an unforgettable moment that I will never forget." For many, this day was not only an introduction to a new sport but also to inspiring journeys, reinforcing the importance of human values in the sporting world and beyond. "I had never had the chance to watch a wheelchair tennis match before, and it was impressive. It opened my eyes to another side of sports competition," added another student.
This day at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games was a great way for emlyon students to start the year, giving them memorable moments before returning to school.
