Program Content for the MSc in Luxury Management & Marketing
The Master of Science (MSc) in Luxury Management & Marketing offered by emlyon business school is accessible after a Bachelor minimum (valid diplomas include bac +4 or bac +3).
This program enables foreign or French students to acquire a high-level, specialized education aimed at the main functions of the luxury industry in companies whose scope is resolutely oriented towards international markets. This program requires a professional mission at the end of the course for a minimal duration of 4 months (internship, VIE, fixed-term contract or permanent contract).
The luxury sector encompasses a wide range of industries, such as among others: fine jewelry, watch making, haute-couture, luxury hospitality, fine dining, the automotive industry, the lifestyle industry, the travel industry, etc. In these varied industries, graduates from the MSc in Luxury Management & Marketing will be able to occupy a wide array of exciting leadership positions to enact positive change on the sector as a whole.
Please note that due to the great number of classes in the program, some mandatory courses will be scheduled on Saturdays during the academic year.
The 18-month program is organised as follows:
- Term 1: emlyon business school Paris campus
- Term 2: Follow one of three specializations
- The Luxury Design Industry at Parsons School of Design, New York
- The Fashion and Lifestyle Industry at College of Fashion, London
- The Fashion and Luxury Business at Luiss Business School, Rome
- The Luxury Design Industry at Parsons School of Design, New York
- Term 3: International term
- Term 4: Internship & Master's thesis - 4 to 6-month professional mission
It is important to note that the final decision on the destination among Rome, London, and New York rests with the program director, Florence Rollet, with students only submitting options that they must justify in relation to their career plans.

E-LEARNING MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS
French as a foreign language courses onsite during the 1st term in Paris:
- Beginner (A1, A2 level)
- Intermediate (B1 level)
Courses are available online for students with a beginner's level during the 2nd and 3rd term.

PREREQUISITE ONLINE COURSES ONLY FOR NON-BUSINESS STUDENTS
You will first follow a core syllabus which will allow you to acquire the fundamentals of management, gain the necessary skill set of international business management and apply it to the industry.

This will help you to get to the grips with the various tools and ensure that your integration is a success, as you will have a busy schedule once the program begins in September.
First period (September to December) – in Paris
TRANSFORMING EARLY MAKERS
The Transforming early makers track challenges you to disrupt existing business models to imagine new value systems in the 2030 horizon through an entirely innovative learning path, directly preparing you for your new profession: steering and supporting the emergence, deployment, development and diffusion of transformation projects using digital technology as a lever for disruption.
Our approach positions you as a “maker”. You will be deployed on a project and placed in a competitive and collaborative environment where you will benefit from methodological input and support. From September, you will join a working group and cluster aligned with your areas of interest. Each week will be organized around this project and the various actions and initiatives that you will be required to achieve. Five series of courses and transversal themes will be studied in this first period:
- Stimulate your creativity through Design Thinking
- Improve your flexibility using fast-track projects
- Harness disruptive markets using Market Intelligence
- Constructing disruptive competitive positioning
- Making disruptive business bodels profitable
This track has many advantages:
- you work in a team on topics that interest you
- you learn in a real-life situation with regular objectives and deliverables

- you focus on your employability from the outset by meeting companies, participating in professional workshops and hearing expert testimonials
- you quickly learn how to sell and how to sell yourself (sales pitch approach)
INITIATION TO THE LUXURY INDUSTRY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Known internationally as one of the top luxury capitals in the world, Paris is also the cornerstone of culture, literature, arts and design where tradition and modernity merge together to create the city's authenticity, prestige and excellence. As such, Paris provides you with the perfect learning environment to acquire a broad overview of the luxury market and trends by taking the basics of general management and the program's initial level of specialization courses.

Second period (January to March) – in London or New York or Rome
CHOICE BETWEEN 3 TRACKS: NEW YORK OR LONDON OR ROME
The second semester will enable you to choose between 3 different tracks in 3 distinctive locations:
- Luxury Design in New York (25 seats) or
- Fashion and Lifestyle in London (up to 100 seats) or
- Fashion & Luxury Business in Rome (5-10 seats)
The Head of the program will give you an answer regarding your 2nd semester destination choice (based on your background and motivation) after the start of the program.
DESIGN MANAGEMENT TRACK (PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN, NEW YORK)
Intrinsically linked to the constant movement of our global society, the world of design keeps on thriving, allowing designers and artists to constantly spot new opportunities and turn creative ideas into tangible projects aligned with current key trends. Attending classes at Parsons School of Design at the New School in New York City (subject to available places) will allow you to discover the history of luxury design, analyze spaces and products related to theoretical approaches on luxury design, examine sustainable business models and innovation and meet designers, artists, forward thinkers etc. Deciding to study over at Parsons School of Design means immersing yourself in a fast pace and unique environment which advocates for rigor, creativity and diligence all the while acquiring an important set of business skills which you will need to apply to succeed in the luxury industry.
Courses available during your time at Parsons School of Design include:
- Theorizing Luxury
This class assesses luxury design from multiple perspectives. Issues pertaining to consumerism, economics, and labor will be addressed.
- New Design Firms
Students will be introduced to – and experience – the conditions of the new design service-oriented firms that are subsuming traditional consulting practice. These new conditions present opportunities, challenges, and a new mandate for leadership and innovation: how should one design, manage and improve those design firms? How should their strategy, structure, scale, scope, and social position be defined?
- Sustainable Business Models
This course develops students' technical and practical abilities, capabilities, and competencies to innovate in order to commercialize and capitalize on value-creative ideas and solutions in the areas of sustainable and service design.
FASHION MANAGEMENT TRACK (LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION, LONDON)
At London College of Fashion, you will learn how to use fashion alongside historical and cultural practice to challenge social, political and ethical agendas. Understanding how to manage and respond to business issues quickly, efficiently and without compromising the excellence that is expected in delivery, will make your experience at London College of Fashion a unique asset to your future career.

- Theoretical and contemporary fashion studies
Students will explore elements of fashion studies and consider a variety of theories and scholars whose contributions are pivotal to the comprehension of fashion as a cultural expression.
- Start your own fashion label
This course develops the skills and knowledge needed to establish or support an emerging fashion brand, taking into consideration all the creative, managerial and commercial aspects of an ever-changing global fashion industry
- Visual merchandising for fashion
This unit will give you a clear understanding of visual merchandising and the role it plays within successful fashion retailing. We will examine and analyze the key aspects of this field, from mass market to luxury.
- Innovation in fashion product development
The course explores the concept of innovation in fashion product development within the context of today’s competitive market, the challenges of sustainability and emerging digital technologies.
- London the Brand: Cultural Studies
This course explores London's cultural heritage, brand evolution, and key influencers in fashion, art, and design, providing valuable insights into the city's unique identity.
FASHION AND LUXURY BUSINESS TRACK (LUISS BUSINESS SCHOOL, ROME)
A selected group of students will be able to spend their second semester at the prestigious LUISS Business School in Rome, and will attend classes in the Master in Fashion and Luxury Management Program. LUISS is one of the top business schools in Italy and highly connected with the Italian businesses and industries. All the courses will be taught in English and will be held at their amazing campus at « Villa Blanc » filled with history and arts.

Year 2 – from July – Internship and Master's Thesis
INTERNSHIP OR FIRST JOB
4to 6-month internship provides a bridge between the academic elements of the degree and the student's future career, to put into practice the knowledge and competencies acquired during the year. The internship may serve as subject for the master’s thesis (academic dissertation or business plan) developed during the same time period, or may be a separate experience.
The internship may be substituted by work experience (temporary job contract, permanent job contract, V.I.E or graduate program). It can also be an entrepreneurial project if the student has legally registered a company in his/her name or in the name of a partnership or is participating in a new business incubator at emlyon business school.

MASTER'S THESIS
The Master's Thesis is an analytical work on a topic related to the industry and to the professional experience gained during your internship. This is a great opportunity for you to research a subject which is not only of particular interest, but which has the potential to contribute powerfully to your personal and professional development.
